Senator Orie Urges Pennsylvanians to Learn More About New Autism Services

HARRISBURG – Senator Jane Orie (R-40) is urging friends and family of autistic individuals to learn more about new services available to people with autism spectrum disorders.

The Adult Autism Medicaid Waiver and the Adult Community Autism Program (ACAP) help autistic people maintain healthy lives and be productive members of the community by assisting those in the program to find steady employment and by encouraging participation in local events.

Support is given to individuals as they work to improve communication with loved ones, explore their personal interests, and express their desires, needs, and concerns in a safe and socially acceptable manner. The programs ensure quality by offering credentialed specialists and careful programmatic oversight that are committed to the betterment of individuals who are diagnosed with an ASD.

"These Pennsylvania programs are national models for helping individuals with autism, and I am hopeful that these programs can provide support for a greater number of individuals to overcome the challenges they face," Orie said.

More information and eligibility requirements for the programs are available online at www.autisminpa.org or by calling toll free 1-800-539-7689.
