FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Orie Receives REACH Alliance Pennsylvania Champion of Choice AwardSenator Jane Orie was recently named a 2008 Pennsylvania Champion of Choice by the REACH Alliance. The presentation took place Thursday, December 11 at Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. Also honored were Dr. Ronald Bowes, assistant superintendent for public policy and development for the diocese of Pittsburgh and Rep. Thomas Tangretti. Orie was honored for her support of the educational improvement tax credit legislation and her support of choice in education. "I have always been a strong supporter of education, including Catholic schools – and I credit my loving parents for that. They sacrificed a great deal to make sure I had a solid Catholic school foundation," Orie said. "And I, in turn embraced the opportunity that was provided to me to attend a school where faith, family values and public service were emphasized. Orie said she appreciated all that the REACH Alliance has done to make educational opportunities available for children – so that they have the opportunity to meet their full potential. She has been a strong advocate of the Education Improvement Tax Credit Program. "This program is a perfect example of a successful private-public partnership Corporations participating in this program increase the educational options for Pennsylvanian families," she said. "The program empowers parents to choose the education program that best benefits their children and rewards businesses that make education a priority."
