FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Orie Introduces Resolution Recognizing March as Women's History MonthSenator Jane Orie (R-Allegheny) today introduced a resolution in the State Senate recognizing March 2008 as "Women's History Month" in Pennsylvania. In 1989, the U.S. Congress declared March as National Women's History Month, and it has been celebrated in Pennsylvania each year since then. Orie, who serves as Senate Majority Whip and is one of 10 women in the state Senate, said the resolution is intended to recognize the accomplishments and experiences of women and their contributions to the growth and strength of the Commonwealth and the nation. "A trend I've noticed in state government is that more women are getting involved," Orie said. "Women are now reaching the highest levels of government leadership. I'm proud to say that Pennsylvania is one of those states that is moving forward in that area." Orie said the resolution – and the month-long event is intended to honor the dedicated women of this nation for their invaluable contributions to this country. "In every field, women are breaking through barriers and making major strides in advancing our country," Orie said. "This resolution is one more way to acknowledge those contributions." |
