Sen. Orie to Unveil Bill Implementing Adam Walsh Child Protection Law in PA

Sen. Jane Orie (R-Allegheny) will hold a news conference at 10 a.m. on Tuesday November 13 in the state capitol’s East Wing Media Center to unveil legislation that would make Pennsylvania one of the first states in the nation to implement the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act.

The legislation will establish federally mandated national standards to strengthen sex offender registration and notification.

John Walsh, who heads the Adam Walsh Foundation, will make a videotaped presentation at the event. Also attending will be Mary Kozakiewicz, mother of Alicia Kozakiewicz, a Pittsburgh teenager who was abducted by an Internet predator.

Orie's legislation would require Pennsylvania to implement the Adam Walsh law, also known as the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). States have three years to implement the program, and bonus awards will be made by the Sex Offender Management Assistance program to jurisdictions that are in compliance by July 27, 2008.
