Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens Receives $500,000 for Expansion and Renovation Project

Today, The Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens received a check for $500,000 to help cover the costs of an expansion and renovation initiative to their facility, according to Senator Jane Orie (R-40).

Orie said the $500,000 check, which was presented by herself and her colleague Senator John Pippy (R-37), is being released from the state's Redevelopment Capital Assistance Fund.

Phipps is developing a conservatory campus of national importance, which includes five new eco-friendly buildings and education demonstration garden sites for conservatory design and operations.  In addition, production houses that date back to the 1930's are being replaced with state-of-the-art greenhouses.  The new space will allow for improved maintenance and horticultural workspace, climate controlled storage and new centralized offices for education and administration.

"The updating of these facilities will prove beneficial to the important work conducted by the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens," said Orie.  "With this expansion, Phipps will be able to increase its educational outreach to school districts and disadvantaged areas to help educate children."
