FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Orie: The Children's Institute Receives $500,000 for Expansion and Renovation ProjectToday, The Children's Institute received a check for $500,000 to help cover the costs of an expansion and renovation initiative to their facility, according to Senator Jane Orie (R-40). Orie said the $500,000 check, which was presented by herself and her colleague Senator John Pippy (R-37), is being release from the state's Redevelopment Capital Assistance Fund. "It is an honor to present this check to an outstanding organization like The Children's Institute," said Orie. "This organization strives to transform the lives and opportunities of severely disabled children and their families. The range of services they provide are unmatched by any other organization in the state. The Children's Institute creates hope for special needs children on a daily basis." Established in 1902, The Children's Institute is an independent, non-profit, licensed organization that serves as a hospital, school and adoption agency. Their mission is to promote the well being of children, young people and their families by providing services that meet their special needs. In fiscal year 2006, The Children's Institute served more than 3,200 children. More than 2,200 of those children were served by the hospital, which is the only free-standing pediatric rehabilitation specialty hospital in Pennsylvania and only one of 20 in the country. The Children's Institute will use the $500,000 in grant money to support the renovation of its facilities, which will enhance clinical and educational programs and services, including expanded care for children with autism, a day treatment program that enables children to receive therapies during the day and return home at night, and a respite program for children with special needs. "The services provided by The Children's Institute help special needs children grow happier and healthier. It strengthens families and it strengthens our community. With so many children in the Commonwealth with special needs, it is comforting to know that we have a place like The Children's Institute to provide crucial services for those children and their families," said Orie.
