Senator Orie Provides FAFSA Applications at District Offices

HARRISBURG – State Senator Jane C. Orie (R-Allegheny) is pleased to announce that copies of the 2007-2008 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the FAFSA on the Web Worksheets are available at her district offices.

The FAFSA determines eligibility for almost all types of federal, state and institutional student aid, including the Pennsylvania State Grant.  Families are encouraged to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible to ensure that all student aid deadlines are met.  Since tax information is required, students and parents should either file their taxes prior to completing the FAFSA or submit their FAFSA based on 2006 estimated tax information.  Since the Pennsylvania state grant is based upon information submitted in the FAFSA, applicants should file their FAFSA by May 1, 2007.

The traditional paper FAFSA is available and may be obtained at Senator Orie's district offices, school counselors or the U.S. Department of Education by calling 1-800-FED-AID.  Families are encouraged to submit their FAFSA online at (www.fafsa.ed.gov) or by visiting PHEAA's college planning website (www.educationplanner.org).

EducationPlanner also offers a free FAFSA tutorial to help families better understand the FAFSA application.  Filing your FAFSA electronically speeds up turnaround time and helps to eliminate errors.  Students and parents filing the FAFSA online will need a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to serve as their electronic signature.  Visit (www.pin.ed.gov) to obtain your PIN prior to completing the FAFSA.

To pick up a paper FAFSA or to get additional information on financing your post-secondary education please call or visit one of Senator Orie's district offices.
