Orie Supports Measure to Limit Timeframe to Seek Reimbursement

HARRISBURG – State Senator Jane Clare Orie (R-40) has offered support to Senator Joe Scarnati (R-25), President Pro Tempore, on a resolution to limit the timeframe Senators can seek reimbursement for expenses.

A letter from Senator Scarnati indicated he will be introducing a resolution on the Senate floor in the coming weeks to amend the financial operating rules of the Senate.  The proposed measure would limit the amount of time a Senator has to submit for a per diem to ninety days from the date he or she is requesting reimbursement.  When the new session of the Senate was sworn in on January 2, 2007 the full Senate adopted new operating rules to open the legislative process to the people of Pennsylvania.

Senator Orie said "this is an important step to regain the trust of the electorate who has been demanding accountability from those who represent them."  Since it is a Senate Resolution this rule change would only apply to the State Senate.
